Mariam Afolabi Takes "Say No To Rape Campaign" Across Kajola Local Government

 
As part of activities of wife of Oyo State Governor Mrs. Ominimini Funke Makinde to fight against rape in our society, the First Lady of Caretaker Chairman of Kajola Local Government, Mrs. Mariam Oluwatoyin Afolabi Borikansunwon took the campaign to Okeho, Isemi-Ile, Imia and Ilua areas on Tuesday 21st July, 2020.



The campaign was flagged-off by the Caretaker Chairman of the Local Government, Hon. Salimonu Adebayo Afolabi Borikansunwon addressed over 250 women who were dressed in the same uniform that rape was a criminal offence in our society and must be dealt with out rightly.


In her speech at Ayedade 
Market, Mrs. Mariam Afolabi gave kudos to the Oyo State First Lady, Chief (Mrs) Ominimini Funke Makinde, the initiator of Say NO To Rape for her support and expressed gratitude to her husband (Alhaji Afolabi) for giving her necessary backings.


She explained that rape disasters occurred in different towns/cities in the country recently which its victims left devastated. She also charged everyone to be alert and vigilant in order to prevent rape in our society.
The chairperson expressed further that anybody find guilty will got death warrant and urged them to warned their husband and children against raping. 


Also speaking at Okeho/Iganna Grammar school, Okeho, Mrs. Alhassan Folake Babalola, the assistant Director, National Orientation Agency, hailed the Principal, Vice Principal, Teachers and students of the school for complied with Covid-19 rules and regulations. She advised them to desist from indicent dressing that can lead to rape.


“More worrisome is the fact that primary and secondary pupils were the victims of rape and it must be checked on time. Please don’t be a victim, get to school ontime and return home quickly after closing hour” She advised.
Mr. Salami S.O. one of the Vice Principals thanked the Local Government for chosen her school for the rally.


At the rally in Okeho Central Motor Park, Chief (Mrs) Victoria Adetona spread the awareness against rape to religious leaders, drivers, artisans and teachers in order to stop rape in our society and urged them not to send their children an errand.
Adetona further said that some of the rapists were doing it for rituals and urged them to fear God in everything they are doing for money.
A leader of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kajola Local Government, Alhaji O.K. Salami promised  support for the campaign against rape saying it is criminal and advised the Non-Government Organizations (NGO) and security Agencies to support the government in the fight agiant rape.    
The Campaign team later moved to Onjo Palace where they were ushered-in by Olori Taibat Mustapha who also gave her support for the programme and commend the organisers.
Speaking at the palace, Deaconess Deborah Adesola stated that some rapists inherit  the bad habits from their parents while other were as a result of inadequate monitoring from the parents.

The DPO and DCO of Okeho Police Division promised to intensify their efforts in the fight against rape in our society. They said that anyone cought in the ungodly act shall face the full wraught of the law. They also promise to increase their night patrol in order to stop the occurrence of  rape in the area.
The campaign took another dimension at Gbonje Market, Okeho when Chief (Mrs.) Isinmiola Olowoyo sentisezed the market men and women against using their wards as hawkers. She lamented the rate at which India hemp which was abhorred greatly in the past now became a regular meal of virtually all the boys in the town today.
She therefore appealed to parents to raise  their children into becoming responsible adults.
Chief (Mrs) Afusat Adebiyi Adepoju, the Iyaloja of Kajola Local Government promised the total support of Iyalojas to the campaign against rape and urged market men and women to desist from rape and other criminal acts.
At Isemi-Ile, Oba Kazeem Bola Mustapha reiterated the support of Kajola Traditional Council of Obas and Chiefs to the war against rape.
The rally moved to Imia and Ilua where Alhaja Morhassan charged the people not to abhor criminal and do away with bad habbits that can lead someone to hell fire.
Present at the rally were Heads of Local Government Administration ,Departmental and Sections Heads, Staffs Supervisory Councillors and party faithfuls.

Rape is barbaric and it's hugely responsible of Mariam Afolabi to have champion the campaign against this antisocial crime spreading like a virus.Actuvists especially matured women who use black Uniform to show their contempt for rape meant business.Assembling 250 women is herculean but for identifying with the evil crime by perverted rapists it will help drive the message to all nooks & crannies of the Kajola LGA@Okeho,Oyo State
