Sunday Oyetunji Thomas (aka Tunakin): The Exit of An Icon By Tim Amosun

Dady Sunday Oyetunji Thomas was born on the 18th of October 1942 into the family of Late Pa. Fatorisa and Madam Kikelomo Thomas of Ikolaba Compound, Ogan, Okeho, Oyo state.

He attended Baptist Day School Isia, Okeho, Saint James School, Ibadan and Methodist Modern Secondary School, Osogbo. He was later trained as a professional photographer with "Ariyo's Photo", Oke Paadi, Ibadan between 1961 and 1964.

He started his own photography studio as a Master Professional Photographer in the year 1964 at Olosa-oko, Oke Paadi, Ibadan. He later took a decision to move to Adamashigba, Ibadan.

The name of his studio was "White Photos" when he started in 1964. He went for professional photography course (Colour Laboratory) in Italy in 1975. When he returned to Nigeria from Italy, he went into partnership with one of his good friends, Akinade Oniti (of blessed memory) to establish a joint company called TUNAKIN Photo in 1982.

As a focussed, dedicated and determined photographer of worth, he later traveled to acquire advanced knowledge in Professional photography at Dust Colour Laboratory, Espon UK in 1984 where his skill in photography was greatly sharpened.

As God wanted it, he won America Visa Lottery in 1998 which made him and his family to relocate to the United States of America. While abroad, he worked with Hilton and Towel Hotel down town Illinois, Chicago and with Arthlyn Photography Company in Illinois, Chicago, USA as a Professional Photographer.

He also had the opportunity to work with Life Touch National School of Photography in Aurora, Chicago as a specialist Professional Photographer. No doubt, he made him enviable impacts in the field of photography not only in Nigeria but also while in the United States of America.

He trained a good number of people as a successful Master Professional photographers. His professional expertise, his good disposition and carriage attracted many to him.

White Photo was always appearing neat, clean, presentable and approachable during his life time. His loving, caring, simple, humble and kind hearted made him special to his family members, friends, customers and well wishers.

I've been hearing about White Photo many years before I met him as Tunakin around Agbowo Shipping Complex. Our conversations were lengthy and purposeful in October 2017 while in the company of his friend, Baba Late Chief Gbade Adejumo.

The love and the development of Okeho was, no doubt, in his heart. He was very impactful.

Dady Tunji Thomas happily got married to Mama Florence Yetunde Thomas (Nee Akintola) and the marriage was blessed with wonderful children and promising grandchildren.

Good night to Dady Sunday Oyetunji Thomas. Good night to White Photo.
